I fell in love with Capri from the moment I saw it from the boat. While I´d love to spend a few weeks or even months on this picturesque island, then a day trip from Naples, Positano or Sorrento is a great way to get the first impression. Keep reading for my top tips on how to spend your day on Capri!

What I love about Capri
* The fresh pine scented air
* The calm zen feeling
* The singing of the cicadas so loud I didn’t even hear the sound of the boat engines
* The sunny people who were always smiling
* The breathtaking views
* The turquoise clear waters of the sea
* The lush green nature
There was a magical timelessness to Capri. A special atmosphere, and a sense of history

Getting to Capri
When you’re on the Amalfi coast, then I really really recommend taking at least a day trip to Capri!
To reach the island you can use the regular ferry service. Ferries depart from Naples and Sorrento all year round, during the summer months also from Positano, Salerno and Ischia. The ride takes 30-50 minutes and costs around 20 euros per way. You can buy tickets from the port or online in advance. This is the cheapest option available!

A bit more pricy, but definitely also more memorable way is to cook a private or small group day trip on boat. We booked a 99 euro day trip from Lubrense Boats and we really happy with everything – from pickup to the beautiful boat and knowledgeable staff. They picked us up from our Massa Lubrense hotel at 10 in the morning, the group was really nice and small. We enjoyed the ride chilling on the sun deck on the front of our white boat while having refreshing drinks given us by the staff. It takes only about 30 minutes to get to Capri, but then the boat continues its ride near the coast offering amazing views, peeks into caves (each with its own mystical story) and glances to the amazing villas of Swarovski and Dolce&Gabbana, until it reaches the super cute little port of Marina Piccola. There will be a memorable swimming stop in the crystal clear waters of Capri coast, where you are able to dive into the sea from the deck and even snorkel if you want.
What to do in Capri
Here are my tips for a perfect day on the island:

Get ready for a picnic
A day before your trip order your picnic bag from Michelangelo Capri (ask them to bring the picnic bag to Charlie scooter rental the next day). It´s an amazing way to get to know the authentic local cuisine (and wine) while enjoying Capri nature at the same time. We chose the The Caprese Couple bag and absolutely loved it.
The picnic bag includes:
* 1 beautiful yellow Cooler Bag (yours to keep!)
* A location map with the best picnic spots on the island (yours to keep!)
* Disposable cutleries
* Satchels of extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper
* Bread rolls
* Water (still or sparkling)
* Antipasti mix (prosciutto wrapped grissini, Italian cheese, olives)
* A freshly made salad (we chose Capri salad)
* Freshly made pasta (we chose Farfalle with prosciutto and cherry tomatoes)
* Homemade chocolate or lemon Torta Caprese
* And a bottle of Aglianico red or Falanghina white wine

Explore Capri town
Take a bus (2 eur/pp) or a taxi (15 eur) from Marina Piccola to Capri town. You can walk, but believe me, it´ll use too much time of your one day on the island.
Stroll the streets, buy some beautiful souvenirs (like the fortune bells of Capri or beautiful coral jewellery, authentic Capri leather shoes or Carthusian perfume) and have a drink at the piazzetta!

Rent a Vespa
Walk a few minutes until you reach Charlie scooter rent – rent yourself a Vespa (book in advance) and take the picnic bag with you! Even Leonardo di Caprio has rented scooter from here, so you know you’re in good hands! Drive around the island to enjoy the breathtaking views

Anacapri and Monte Solari
Drive to Anacapri and park your Vespa!
Take a chairlift to Monte Solaro. The ticket costs 9-12 eur (up and down) depending on month. I assure you, it is such a zen experience – rising above the island, listening to cicadas, smelling the pine in the hot air, enjoying the views over the sea.
Once up, walk around, pick a place and enjoy your Capri picnic with unbelievable views!

Marina Piccola beach
If you still have time after taking back your Vespa (they even agree to take you down to Marina Piccola at Charlie Scooter Rental) then use it to enjoy the beautiful little beach of Marina Piccola.

Faraglioni and sunset on the boat
On your way back the boat goes through the legendary Faraglioni rock of Capri. It is believed that when you kiss under the Faraglioni, then you´ll stay together forever! Very romantic!

After that and another swim in the blue waters of Capri, just relax and enjoy the gorgeous colors of an Amalfi sunset on the way back to the main land, while sipping some hand made limoncello made of the famous Amalfi lemons by the grandmother of your guide!

Have you ever been to Capri? If you have, then share your tips on how to spend a perfect day on the island in the comments! I will use them next time I go there as I will definitely go back one day!
